Illini Unmanned Aerial Vehicles
What we're all about

Goals and Objectives

Illini Unmanned Aerial Vehicles is meant to allow students to explore engineering innovation in the field of drones, RC, and aircraft. We strive to develop student-made projects and devices that serve real-world purposes that can benefit society. We want members to employ their respective majors and expertise to come together and create effective UAVs that are entirely student-made and designed. At the same time, we want to create an environment of innovation and teamwork to build bonds between members over their shared interests, and to generate more interest in the topics and applications of drone vehicles in the real world.

Design

By dividing into several different teams, we will be designing, building, and programming our own drones.

Test

Once the drone is built and programmed, testing and reworking our drone to achieve perfection will be key!

Fly!

Once everything is ready to go, we will have a drone that can fly on its own!

Accomplishments

Brian's Custom Built Drone

Primarily built by Brian with some help from the rest of the club.

Aidan's VTOL

Aidan built this drone for a VTOL competition in China.

About

  • Spring 2016

Officially a Registered Student Organization (RSO) at the University of Illinois

Began meetings in a classroom in Davenport Hall.

  • Fall 2017

    Recruitment, Practice, and Drone Design

We set up a table on the University of Illinois Quad Day for new member recruitment. We also began building a drone we already had parts for, and began designing another. We found an adequate location for full time practice for the fly team.

  • Spring 2019

    Transition to IUAV

The transition was made from Illini Drone Racing to Illini UAV. We decided that we wanted to focus more on the modeling and programming of the drones rather than racing with them.

  • Fall 2019

    First Quad Day as IUAV

We participated in our first quad day since we reworked the club last spring. The day turned out to be a success, with the club recruiting 400 potential members for the upcoming school year. Next step: an autonomous drone for EOH!

  • More to come!
